3 Ways Canada Can Improve Their Immigration System

Canada is one of the most welcoming countries globally to immigrants. The country needs immigrants, or basically, more people to drive economic growth. This is the reason a lot of people all over the world want to immigrate to the country. Despite the many unfortunate events happening today, immigration is a prominent issue in the country, which is why there’s a need to improve the immigration system.

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) Candidates

Through the FSWP, the country has been able to welcome a lot of economic class immigrants, along with their Express Entry. However, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is not able to invite FSWP candidates via their bi-weekly Express Entry draws this year because most of them are faced with COVID-related issues that may be problematic to turn them into permanent residents.

Still, there are FSWP candidates who are already in the country that haven’t received an invitation. With that, the CIC may need to put more focus on inviting FSWP candidates already in the country, especially that travel restrictions in the country are starting to ease.

This would strengthen the country’s immigration system despite the troubled times as FSWP candidates are the ones with higher core Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores compared to other candidates. In that sense, FSWP candidates can help drive economic growth now.

  • Expired Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) Holders

Many individuals reported difficulties in getting their COPRs renewed that will help them begin the process of finally immigrating to the country. Unfortunately, these are individuals who have accomplished the application process and are already approved by the IRCC. Furthermore, many are not getting updates from IRCC.

As mentioned, travel restrictions continue to ease in the country, which makes now the perfect time for the CIC to start processing these individuals to immigrate to the country.

  • Newcomers and Jobs

During the pandemic, the newcomers are the ones who have taken a huge hit. However, research has shown that they have the worst economic outcomes over their lifetime in Canada compared to the individuals who arrived during stronger economic periods.

With that, CIC must work with various organizations and sectors to provide the best employment support to newcomers during this time.

No Immigration System Without Flaws

The immigration system in Canada is indeed one of the best, and they have made excellent developments in recent years, such as Express Entry. Express Entry has helped faster processing of applications and is considered by many as the easiest way to immigrate to Canada. Moreover, the country also has multi-year level plans that provide stakeholders across the country to prepare for the arrival of newcomers. Also, the CIC continues to do a great job.

Despite being one of the best immigration systems in the world, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have flaws. There are still a lot of ways that it can be better, and these ideas listed in this post can be helpful in improving the immigration system in Canada that will allow more people across the world to live in the country, even at this time.
