4 Checklist to Consider for Your Canadian Immigration Application

Canada is one of the few countries built on immigration, which means it thrives on welcoming people from all walks of life to contribute to growing an already flourishing economy.

With a welcoming culture, lucrative career opportunities, breathtaking environment, and a prime country for starting a bright future, it’s no surprise that Canada’s immigration system is soaring despite the coronavirus pandemic throwing a wrench into everyone’s plans.

While Canada takes pride in its open borders, making such a life-changing move requires plenty of patience and preparation. It can be a time-consuming process, so it’s best to mitigate possible blunders and move forward as smoothly as possible by ironing out the following checklist before sending your application.

Tip #1: Always Verify the Form’s Validity

Not all immigration forms are valid since it is always updated, so be sure to keep track of any changes to ensure the form you’re using is the correct version. You can do this by checking the form you have with the IRCC’s online form, which should always be up-to-date.

Tip #2: Stay on Top of Signature Dates

Besides checking the form’s publication date, you also need to ensure the signatures you pen down dates less than 90 days from the day you submitted your application to the IRCC. If you submit forms that have been with you beyond that mark, then the CIC will have to request you to redo the process.

Keep in mind that you also need to sign only if you qualify for the application. For instance, common-law partners should only submit the forms with their signature if you lived together for more than a year, so signing at an earlier date will render the form useless since the CIC will only accept the most recent forms.

This means that signing the form one month before you achieve one-year of cohabitation will be denied since it technically doesn’t meet the qualification requirements.

Tip #3: Always Have a Spare Copy of Your Complete Application Form

Nothing is more frustrating than submitting your application and then finding out it was lost in transit. There’s also the off-chance that CIC can lose some pages of your application, so having extra copies of your documents and forms can make a difference between moving forward or starting again from scratch.

Tip #4: Send the Application Form Using Traceable Couriers

Time is of the essence once you submit your application, so it’s important to ensure the CIC has received your delivery by tracking it down. This should remove any further complications and allow you to address concerning delays.

The Bottom Line: How Preparing for Your Application can Work to Your Favor

Canada’s immigration system is truly one-of-a-kind thanks to its multi-faceted programs allowing people to seize different opportunities. Whether it’s bringing families together with their sponsorship programs or taking your career to greater heights, there’s a place for you in Canada.
