4 Popular Canadian Immigration Programs Today—What Option to Choose

Many people dream of immigrating to Canada and making a new life for themselves. The country has so much to offer—from a robust economy and national security to excellent healthcare down and plenty of job opportunities. However, the global pandemic brought about by the COVID-19 crisis has drastically impacted immigration to Canada.

Amid the chaos, there is good news: the country continues to welcome people of different nationalities amid the current crisis. In fact, the Federal Government of Canada plans to get more than one million immigrants in the next three years. But with over 70 immigration programs available in the country, which one must you consider applying for?

In this article, we’ll share with you four popular Canadian immigration programs you may want to consider applying for today.

1. Express Entry Program

This program is considered the most eligible immigration system in Canada. It accounts for about one-third of all immigrants moving to the country every year. In fact, the Immigration and Refugee Council of Canada (IRCC) has already issued 107,350 invitations to apply for permanent residency this year. This program is open to skilled managers, professionals, or trades workers with at least a year of experience. Through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), applicants are given a CSR score and entered into these three pools: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canada Experience Class.

2. Family Class Sponsorship

Family Class Sponsorship is deemed a cornerstone of the immigration policy in Canada. Its focus is on Family Reunification, which is all the more necessary in times of a global pandemic. This program allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their families and relatives and live in the country permanently. Through this program, you can sponsor your spouse and children under the age of 22. You cannot currently sponsor your parents and grandparents, but you can bring them to the country under the Super Visa Category.

3. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)

What’s good about Canada is that all its provinces have their own immigration programs commonly referred to as Provincial Nominee Programs (except Quebec). This program endeavours to cater to the provinces’ specific economic needs, where each nominates candidates for permanent residency. Keep in mind, however, that each province has its own set of rules and requirements. Hence, be sure to check the province’s minimum requirements and follow further instructions for the provincial nominee program shown on the website.

4. Canada Study Permit

The Canada Study Permit allows international students to come to and study in the country, eventually apply for a post-graduation work permit, and finally seek permanent residency via the Express Entry system. What’s good about Canada is that it has made major adjustments to accommodate international students’ needs despite the pandemic. In fact, the country has implemented better pathways for students to live in the country as permanent residents with its various programs.

Conclusion

At this point, we’ve covered four popular Canadian immigration programs—Express Entry, Family Class Sponsorship, PNP, and Canada Study Permit. However, there are other programs you may want to consider, such as  Rural Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP), Atlantic Immigration Pilot, Agri-Food Pilot, and many more. Ultimately, it’s best to check with an immigration agency and work with an immigration consultant to see how you can best immigrate to Canada amid a global pandemic.
