Achieving Your Canadian Dream: Canadian Immigration Programs

If you’ve been chasing the American dream to no avail, Canada may be a more welcoming alternative to consider. Though the Covid-19 pandemic has put immigration processes on hold and international travel at a standstill, the future of immigration will always be waiting for you. If you’re thinking of relocating to Canada, here’s all you need to know.

Canadian Immigration Numbers Are Skyrocketing

In the next three years, Canada is expecting to welcome more than a million new permanent residents. Where U.S. immigration rates have fallen and become increasingly hostile, Canadian immigration rates are experiencing a steady rise. For the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to continue to adhere to their departmental plans, they’re committing to relocate up to 350,000 immigrants in 2021. Before the pandemic, IRCC’s 2020 goal was to welcome 341,000 new Canadian nationals. Overall, it’s an attractive goal considering Canada’s need to fill labor shortages, promote innovation, and help stimulate the economy.

Why Does Canada Need Immigrants?

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Canadian immigration agencies have committed to admitting as many foreign nationals as possible to combat labor shortages and an aging population. To inherit foreign talents, Canada has since instigated the Global Talent Stream.

The pilot program has since helped recruit workforces in order to allow businesses to flourish. Plus, skill walkers have the opportunity to fast-track applications, obtaining Canadian work permits in as quickly as 2 weeks.

Long Term Prospects: Canada or the U.S.?

One of the top destinations for international students thanks to Post Graduate Work Permits, students can also put themselves on track towards achieving permanent residency after finishing studies.

Though the Optional Practice Traning Program in the U.S. (which promotes a program for science, technology, engineering, and math) allows students to work for up to 24 months after completing their studies, the Trump Administration has since imposed restrictions on the H-1B visa, making it far more difficult to achieve permanent residency. This imposition also prioritizes American graduates and makes it difficult for foreign skilled workers.

Canada is a Haven For International Students

As the U.S. cracks down on international student applicants, Canada has taken the steps to make these processes that much easier for prospective students. Recognizing the crucial role that immigration plays in the economy, Canada continues to reinforce its own resilience in foreign labor. Its Immigration Minister has since announced his firm beliefs on immigration and willingness to bring people together to build a stronger community. Immigration groups have since focused efforts on enhancing immigration strategies and policies after the pandemic.

Conclusion

Despite the pandemic, the Canadian government has committed to monitoring the current circumstances and coming up with ways to make immigration application processes that much more simple. Overlooking the limitations of the pandemic, the Canadian government considers Canadian immigration a journey that is still worth taking.
