Applying for Residential Inland Sponsorship in Canada: A Quick Guide

Surely, the promise of an exciting new life has occurred to many once or twice in their lives. Some people desire a dreamy Italian life, with vineyard visits in the afternoon and wine in the evenings. Others are caught daydreaming about New York City, a concrete jungle full of possibilities, and of course, night strolls at Times Square sound fancy. Who wouldn’t love that, right?

Canada is also a very popular choice for people all over the world. America’s hat, as it is popularly called, offers many opportunities as any progressive country does. And so, people have been eyeing the best way to immigrate to Canada and the conditions that come together with this pursuit.

Read on for a guide to immigrating to Canada through inland sponsorship.

Inland Sponsorship

Simply put, this sponsorship allows any Canadian citizen to grant permanent residence to their spouse only if they are both already living in Canada. This sponsorship program carries several advantages, including:

  • A work permit is given even before the approval of an application. With the permit’s “open” status, applicants can freely engage in whatever work, position, and business they want. It has a two-year validity, which requires continuous renewal until the application is approved.
  • Provincial health care insurance is given to applicants after completing a certain tenure. Note that the time span varies from province to province. For example, applicants living in Ontario are to receive health insurance three months after acquiring a work permit.

The dream of inland sponsorship is very compelling and convenient since Canada allows any applicant to roam the country even before an application gets approved, with no possibility for deportation. However, just applying for sponsorship through the In-Canada class does not automatically guarantee temporary status. Thus, an applicant must be an active worker, visitor, or student to keep the status.

The Case for Applicants with Expired Status

One heavily fraught matter that applicants usually encounter is an expired status. But those who initially file an inland sponsorship application are not subject to this dilemma since CIC closely monitors their status. Only those applicants who file an application for family class sponsorship are asked to leave the country since they are not allowed to keep a work permit.

Sponsorship Restrictions

Applying for an inland sponsorship does not restrict any applicant from leaving Canada; they have complete liberty to travel in and out of the country. But this must be done with restrictions as constant and extended travel outside the country might mark an applicant as an unofficial resident.

Another concern that constant travellers must be careful of is the country’s policy of banning applicants from going back to Canada after some time. With this, applicants are encouraged to take international travel no more than two times a year, and these trips should last only a few weeks.

Conclusion

Applying for an in-Canada sponsorship is easy only if conditions are followed and practiced. This is to say, applications are also approved quickly, with the maximum time of processing lasting only a year. While some people have it faster, applications that include children are processed longer than 12 months.
