Canada’s immigration system doesn’t come short with opportunities for people around the world, and the latest addition in Ontario’s expansion is the Expression of Interest (EOI) system. With this update, graduates with job offers in Canada’s provinces can now get a provincial nomination using the Master’s Graduate and PhD streams on top of the In-Demand Skills, International Student, and Foreign Worker.
But First, What is the Expression of Interest (EOI) System?
The Expression of Interest (EOI) is a point-based system that allows skilled immigrants to get the chance to apply for a nomination based on their scoring and ranking, making it possible to skip a few steps to live in the province of Ontario as a permanent resident.
In this article, we’ll focus on the new open streams in the Employer Job Offer Category: Foreign Worker and International Student. Moving forward, this means that aspiring migrants can register an EOI profile anytime without waiting for the OINP online portal to open.
What is the Foreign Worker Stream?
As the moniker suggests, the Foreign Worker stream provides opportunities to live and work permanently in Ontario so long as you get a job offer that requires a skilled occupation that meets the eligibility requirements of the National Occupation Classification.
What is the International Student Stream?
International students that pass with flying colours for a job offer under the Skill Type O, A, or B of the National Occupation Classification can also apply to live and work permanently in Ontario.
How to Register for an Expression of Interest?
If you fall in either of the new streams for an OI, you can register by creating a profile in the OINP e-Filing Portal. This involves confirming your eligibility and constantly checking the information entered to ensure it remains accurate and up-to-date.
Keep in mind that having an EOI registration doesn’t automatically mean you can receive an invitation to apply, so you have to wait for the OINP to contact you before moving forward. Your EOI registration is only valid for up to 12 months, so if you didn’t receive an invitation from an OINP representative within the timeframe, your registration would be deleted, and you’ll have to make a new one.
If you do get an invitation, prepare for the fees associated with the application!
The Bottom Line: Why Ontario Introduced New Streams in the EOI System
Ontario functioned as a first-come-first-serve model, but it was an arduous process since immigrants would also have to compete with other non-Express Entry candidates. With that in mind, the EOI system was introduced to simplify the process and hopefully offer faster processing times.
