You may have heard of Canada’s Parents Grandparents Program, which allows those living in the country to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. However, since the intake period for interest to sponsor closed back in November of 2020, you may have missed your chance.
Fortunately, not all hope is lost just yet. Whether you have not applied or have not received an invitation, or if you have no idea what is going on, you still have a chance at the program. The program will reopen in 2021, and here is what you need to know to be fully ready for it and increase your chances of success!
Apply when intake is open
Note that, as of this moment, there are no specific dates set for the intake period in 2021. All we know is that it will come back again. This means that you must keep your eyes open for when the CIC announces its intake is back open.
Keep in mind that the intake period is not when you apply for the program. Rather, it is when you can show that you are interested in the program. Only after you show interest in the program will the CIC send the actual invitations for you to apply.
Submitted Interest in 2020 but not invited
If you have already submitted an interest to sponsor back in 2020 but did not receive an invitation, do not worry. The CIC did not miss your application. There is just a lot to process.
Additionally, once the 2021 round of applications starts, yours will be given extra consideration. Plus, because the program is set on a first-in, first-out basis, your application will be processed much faster than newer applications. Just remember to re-apply when the intake period reopens.
Submit the application after receiving the invitation
When you receive an invitation, remember that you only have about 60 days to complete and submit your sponsorship application. You will typically receive this invitation through email. However, on the off chance that you cannot receive the email, it will be sent to your mailing address instead. Note this invitation will only apply to you and no one else, meaning only you will be eligible to apply as a sponsor for the Parents Grandparents Program.
With many people looking forward to applying as a sponsor in the Parents Grandparents Program, you must pay attention to when the intake reopens. You should also act quickly then to prove your interest. Once you receive an invitation, you must collect all the necessary documentation and provide accurate data to give yourself the best chances of successfully bringing your parents or grandparents into Canada with you.
That said, if you are having trouble in any part of the application process or need clarification on a few topics, reach out to a professional immigration consultant. They will give you the answers that you need and can even help ensure you provide the correct documents to increase your chances of getting your application approved.
