From Ghana to Canada: What to Know About Immigrating

Canada is one of the most progressive countries in the world. They have an excellent economy, beautiful sights, and diverse cultures. The only downside is that their population does need a little help. Canada is one of the most welcoming countries, ready to receive people from different cultures willing to help and build the nation.

In a recent announcement, Immigration Minister Honourable Marco E. L. Mendocino announced that the country is ready to accept 90,000 essential workers and international graduates as permanent residents this year. Starting on the 6th of May, they will also begin receiving temporary workers in health care, selected essential occupations, and international students.

If you are a resident in Ghana planning to move to the beautiful country of Canada, this article will provide you essential information about immigration.

Method 1: Get to Canada Through the Express Entry

Express entry is the fastest and most efficient way to enter Canada, and it is open to almost everyone. It is an online immigration system whose goal is to manage skilled workers and their application for permanent residency.

All you need to do is find out if you are eligible, submit the necessary documents, and the system will check your profile and give you points. Those with the highest points in the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) might receive an invitation and apply to become permanent  residents.

It can be as fast as six months for the Express Entry system, compared to years of waiting through other application methods. Moreover, it is the method that the country will use to find 332,750 out of the 1.2 million new immigrants targeted by the end of 2023.

How to Increase Your Chances of Having a Higher CRS Point

Since the system works via a cut-off method, the only way to increase your chances is to improve your CRS score. Here are some factors that can help you:

  • Get a high score on the language test. You can re-take it if you need to.
  • Gather more experience in your field.
  • Having more qualifications would help you get more points.
  • If you have a spouse, applying with them would increase your chances.
  • Try to acquire a Provincial Nomination.
  • Having a job offer in Canada also improves your chances.
  • If you have a sibling in Canada, the process would be smoother.

These are not the only references they use, but meeting them could help you improve your chances.

Method 2: Enter Canada Through a Student Permit

Canada has an excellent education system. It currently ranks as one of the best globally, where you would find the top educators and academics. Any international student is welcome to study in this country. By choosing this route, you have the chance of securing your future job and permanent residency in Canada.

Here are the requirements they look for in a student:

  • You are enrolled in a DLI (designated learning institution)
  • You have the money to finance yourself
  • You have no criminal record
  • You are in good health
  • Studying is your primary purpose, and that you plan to leave when your permits expire unless you apply for other residency programs.

All student permits last up until your program is done, with an additional 90 days you can use to explore the country or prepare for departure. While you have your student permit, you can also have a job within a maximum of 20 hours per week. That could be your gateway to gaining experience and securing a work permit later.

Conclusion

There are many reasons people love the idea of immigrating to Canada, and one of them is the country’s openness to all people who want to be part of their community. If you dream of living and being a Canadian citizen soon, then take note of the things mentioned above and seek the help of an immigration agency in Toronto. They would ensure everything is smooth.
