Moving to Canada for Work: Understanding the FSWP and the FSTP

People interested in living in Canada to pursue their studies, gain a new career path, or other personal reasons must know that there’s a lot involved in handling the immigration process. Instead of managing on your own, it will help to hire an immigration agency for assistance.

Besides aiming to meet the criteria and submitting all the requirements, there are expenses you have to attend to for you to move to Canada legally and successfully. Fortunately, there are two primary immigration programs you may want to consider—the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP.)

Both programs fall under the Express Entry immigration system, and depending on your situation, you could apply to one of them to make it easier for you to move. Keep reading below to learn more about the FSWP and the FSTP to prepare you for immigrating to Canada.

What is the FSWP?

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of the main Express Entry programs that allows a working professional with the proper skillset and adheres to Canada’s immigration requirements to apply for a job. The government developed the program to encourage more residents showcasing relevant work experience to support the country’s hopes of boosting the economy.

If you fail to portray the necessary skills to achieve a high ranking on the point-based system of the Express Entry program, there are still other ways to gain a better rank. All you need to do is enhance your capabilities, such as studying English or French and focusing on a new application.

Other than that, you can also choose to excel and learn new skills, so long as they are related to your career. That way, it can increase the possibilities of acquiring an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency and move to Canada for good.

What are the Requirements for FSWP?

If you wish to qualify for the FSWP, there are certain criteria you must follow. You need at least a year of full-time work experience within the past ten years, and it should be under a National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type. You also have to prove you finished at least a secondary education, such as high school.

Whether you choose English or French, you need a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) seven in the four abilities and must meet the necessary criteria to improve your CRS points. You must be of the right age to apply for the FSWP, have a legal job offer, and have achieved provincial nomination.

If you’re unsure about meeting the requirements, it’s best to speak with an immigration consultant for further assistance.

What is the FSTP?

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is developed for people with work experience related to specific trade occupations who wish to move to Canada. It’s recommended for professional workers that want to immigrate to the country and pursue a promising career.

If you wish to apply for the FSTP but you’re unsure if you’re qualified, you can visit the federal government’s website for more information regarding the requirements. After finding out the qualifications and you believe you fit the part, you can go ahead and apply through the Express Entry system.

When you aim for the FSTP, you must first have a current job offer or a Canadian certificate of qualification to be eligible and become a candidate. Your mission must involve receiving an ITA, and you can only do so if you focus on maintaining a score high enough to be a prime candidate. A significant rank can increase your chances of achieving permanent residency.

What are the Requirements for FSTP?

For you to qualify for the FSTP, the requirements are having a full-time job run by a Canadian employer with at least a one-year contract or a certificate from a governing body to prove your qualification. You also need a good language proficiency score for English or French measured by the CLB or the Niveaux de compétence Linguistique canadiens (NCLC).

With the language tests, you must showcase a Level 4 for writing and reading, while listening and speaking require you to have a Level 5 competency. Moreover, you need at least two years of full-time work experience within the last five years.
