What to Expect From Canadian Immigration This 2021

2020 was an incredibly hectic year for everyone. With coronavirus restricting most activities, adapting to the changes was the only means for many of us to survive. The virus also affected Canada’s immigration system. Fewer people are willing to travel and immigrate, and those who do have to face plenty of restrictions and guidelines.

Fortunately, those looking to immigrate to Canada still have a way to enter the country. Various programs, such as the Provincial Nominee Programs, are still open, meaning getting into Canada is still possible.

With that being said, 2021 has arrived and offered some people renewed hope. But will the situation change for the better, or will it remain the same? Let’s go over what we can expect in the sections below.

The rise of the vaccines

One sign that 2021 will improve is that vaccines have been created and are currently being tested and distributed. This can mean that Canada will soon see an increase in travellers, given that the vaccines work and that the pandemic dies down.

Back in December, Canada tested a vaccine for the virus. This was the most extensive vaccination campaign in Canada’s history, and it aims to get everyone vaccinated by September 2021. This, of course, will be one of many initiatives to help Canada’s immigration system return to normal.

The implementation of travel restrictions

Despite the ongoing testing and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, we believe Canada will still implement travel restrictions to be safe. These restrictions were set back in 2020 and will more than likely continue well into 2021.

Among these restrictions are mandatory two-week quarantine periods for travellers, even those who test negative for the virus. This can make it seem like immigration into the country will still be a challenge, which might be the case, but do not mistake it as a sign that Canada is unwilling to welcome new people.

The commitment to welcome new immigrants

As mentioned earlier, Canada is not enforcing rules and restrictions for the sake of turning away immigrants. In fact, the CIC welcomes and encourages immigrants to travel and settle in the country. This means that everyone, whether students or workers, can come into Canada.

To prove this point, the government has shown plans to welcome around 400,000 new immigrants every year from 2021 to 2023, which is the highest it has ever been.

Conclusion

What does all this information mean to you? In short, it means that if you wish to travel and settle in Canada, you have the opportunity to do so! Various programs are open for you to take advantage of, such as the Provincial Nominee Programs and even the Parents and Grandparents Program.

That said, this does not mean that applying for such programs is going to be easy and guaranteed. There are specific requirements you must satisfy to be eligible for those programs. To ensure that you waste as little time and money as possible, we highly recommend working with immigration professionals to assist you.
