What You Need to Know About Implied Status in Canada – Part 2

Are you waiting for your Permanent Residence in Canada, and you think if this can provide you with implied status? The truth is, this will not automatically provide you with any kind of implied status. If you’re already in the country with temporary status at the time you apply for Permanent Residence, you may apply for a new temporary application in conjunction with your Permanent Residency application. If you do this before your temporary status expires, you will get an implied status, which will help you stay in the country legally.

Here are some work permit applications you can make in conjunction with applications for PR:

  • Bridging Open Work Permit Implied Status: If you have a valid work permit at the time you apply for this
  • Spousal Sponsorship Implied Status: If you have a valid work permit at the time you apply for a spouse or common-law sponsorship

Incomplete Application

If your application is returned to you as incomplete after your current permit has already expired, this will make you lose your implied status. In this case, you need to apply to have your status restored, and you will need to stop working or studying until you have a new permit.

Implied Status Are Only for Inland Applications

It’s essential to remember that implied status is only granted for temporary applications that will be processed in the country. For online applications, if you will accomplish Temporary Residence that falls under “Stay in Canada Longer—Change conditions or extend your stay” category, this will temporarily gain you an implied status until you receive a decision on your new application.

On the other hand, if you are accomplishing an application for Temporary Residence that falls under “Come to Canada Temporarily—Visit, Study or Work in Canada”, then you will not gain implied status because these applications are processed at a visa office outside the country.

Implied Status and Other Benefits

Each of the provinces in the country handles implied status differently, mainly when it comes to healthcare and driving privileges. In Alberta, if you call Alberta Health Care before your current permit expires and advise them you have applied for a new permit and you will have implied status, you can get a 90-day extension to your coverage. However, driver’s licences in Alberta are not renewed on the basis of implied status.

Conclusion

Getting implied status in the country can be confusing and overwhelming. Sure, it’s important you know this information, but at some point, you’re going to need the help of an expert to help you navigate the immigration process. That is why it’s vital you consider getting help from an immigration consultant. That way, you will get the right help to ensure that you remain in the country to continue working or studying.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to an immigration consultant that can help you get the help you deserve. After all, Canada’s immigration system isn’t that easy to navigate. Save more time and money with the help of an immigration company that can make your life so much easier.
