Where Canada’s Best Gas and Oil Jobs Can Be Located

There are many job opportunities in Canada that can cater to multiple skill sets. A lot of lucrative positions are available in the gas and oil production fields. Canada is one of the biggest oil-producing and exporting nations, so there’s a constant demand for mudloggers, drillers, and engineers. That said, it’s important to know where you will be able to look.

For many people, finding jobs in those fields can be the easiest way to immigrate to Canada. A good starting point is the career page on company websites. Aside from finding vacancies, there will also be opportunities to learn about the company’s mission-vision and why working for them is beneficial.

While knowing exactly where to look can seem daunting given the country’s size, there’s a way to narrow things down. There are three provinces responsible for a whopping 97 percent of the country’s oil production.

Top Canadian Provinces That Produce Oil

  • Alberta

Aside from being Canada’s largest oil producer, this province is also the world’s largest producer of oil sands. The province has major oil fields everywhere, such as cities in Red Deer, Caroline, Brooks, and Medicine Hat. It’s also where oil refineries and upgraders can be found, such as the Shell Canada Scotford Refinery, which produces 100,000 barrels daily. The Shell Canada Scotford Upgrader is also located here. Aside from all that, there are pipelines in Alberta that transport crude oil to the United States and other provinces.

  • Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador finds itself highly economically dependent on its amazing gas and oil industry. This is thanks in part to the province being one of Canada’s smaller ones. A total of five fields can be found here, including the $14 billion Hebron project. It was responsible for the first oil produced back in late 2017. The four other fields are rather heavy-hitting as well, with barrels at 240,000 a day on average.

A number of designated employers in Newfoundland fall under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot. The program provides an easy way to enter Canada: If a designated employer puts forward a job offer, then living and working in the province is possible on a permanent basis.

  • Saskatchewan

This is the second-largest oil-producing province, which takes responsibility for 13.5 percent of heavy crude oil, natural gas, and light crude oil production in Canada. There are distinct oil-producing regions in this province:

  • The Kindersley area
  • The Lloydminster area
  • The Swift Current area
  • The Weyburn area

Take note, as well, of the top 10 biggest gas and oil companies in Canada:

  • Canadian Natural Resources
  • Cenovus Energy Inc.
  • Enbridge Inc.
  • Gibson Energy Inc.
  • Husky Energy Inc.
  • Imperial Oil Ltd.
  • Pembina Pipeline Corp.
  • Parkland Fuel Corp.
  • Suncor Energy Inc.
  • TC Energy Corp.

It should be noted that at any given time, there are in-demand jobs up to the thousands across Canada. A good rule of thumb is to find the province/s where your industry/occupation is in demand. That way, there can be a proper narrowing down of the job search and possible qualification for the Provincial Nominee Program.

Conclusion

There are thousands of in-demand jobs in Canada, including positions in the gas and oil production fields. The top three provinces that produce oil are Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Alberta. Taking on a job in this particular industry can make it easier to live and work in Canada.
